Habitat & Facts

Woolly mammoths are the ancestors of today's Asian elephants.The various mammoth species were usually equipped with long, curved tusks, and the northern species had a long coat of hair.Like today's elephants, they were also herbivores and fed on grasses and hedges.Adult woolly mammoths could defend themselves effectively against predators with their tusks, trunks and size, but the young and weakened adults were vulnerable to pack hunters such as wolves, cave hyenas and other large animals.
